The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located inside the Da Ci'en Temple in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province (a Tang dynasty royal temple). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the must-visit attractions in Xi’an.
In 652 AD, after Tang monk Xuanzang returned to Chang’an via the Silk Road, he oversaw the construction of the pagoda to preserve the Buddhist scriptures and statues he brought back from India. The pagoda is therefore an important witness to the introduction and localization of Indian Buddhism in China.
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is not only a symbol of Xi’an but also represents the cultural peak of the Tang dynasty.
It is a popular spot for tourists and also an important place for locals to relax and enjoy leisure activities. The pagoda carries both historical depth and the lively atmosphere of the city.
Take Xi’an Metro Line 4 to Dayanta Station (大雁塔站), exit at Exit C (southeast), then walk about 700 meters.
