Liuxing Street is one of the most well-known spots in Yining and a place almost every visitor checks out. It was first built in 1934, and the whole street is laid out in the shape of a hexagon.
The area is full of buildings and courtyards with a strong Xinjiang vibe. Most of them have blue walls and pink roofs, mixed with different kinds of flowers. The bright colors and unique style make the street feel a bit like something out of a fairytale.
Yining itself is home to many ethnic groups and cultures, and Liuxing Street really shows that mix. People from over ten different groups live here—Kazakhs, Hui, Uyghurs, Russians, and more. You’ll find traditional Xinjiang music and dance, accordion players, and all kinds of local snacks. Don’t miss the Kulandamu handmade ice cream, which has over a hundred years of history, or the mianfeizi (a spicy noodle dish with beef lung). It’s a good place to soak in the local culture and atmosphere.
Liuxing Street is accessible by multiple bus routes (1/3/4/12/19/21/301) - use AMAP or Baidu Maps for real-time directions, or take a taxi for direct arrival at this historic cultural district.
