Liziba

Liziba Monorail Station (李子坝轻轨站) is the world’s first case where a residential building and a transit line share the same structure. Located on Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2, the train passes directly through the 6th to 8th floors of the building, with shops on the lower levels and apartments above.

The station was designed to adapt to Chongqing’s unique terrain. To allow the line to pass through while still accommodating nearby residents, the city built the track and the residential block together.

Opened in 2004, Liziba gained wide attention after 2016 when short videos and social media made its unusual design popular. Today it is one of Chongqing’s must-visit landmarks and a symbol of the city’s “magical 8D” character.

To better serve the crowds of domestic and international visitors, the local government built a viewing platform where people can capture photos of the train running through the building.
