Shibati Traditional Style Scenic Area

The name 'Shibati' means 'Eighteen Stairs', referring to the original stone steps that connected the upper and lower parts of Chongqing’s old city. Shibati Traditional Style Area is located in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. It’s one of the best examples of the city’s mountain terrain. The biggest impression when visiting Shibati is the constant climb and descent, with all the buildings built along steep slopes.

Shibati combines the charm of old Chongqing’s mountain city with modern commercial areas and cultural displays, giving visitors plenty to explore at a relaxed pace.

You can take photos of Chongqing’s iconic stilted houses(吊脚楼), visit filming spots from the movie “I Belonged to You,” enjoy coffee or tea in small alley cafés, browse cultural and creative shops for souvenirs, and try local Chongqing snacks.

It’s near Jiefangbei, so you can visit it along with Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street and Hongya Cave.

• Enter from the north entrance to start from the top and walk down for an easier route.
• Wear comfortable shoes, preferably sneakers.
• Plan 1–3 hours for your visit.
