In late August 2026, to mark the 10th anniversary of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, the “Lancang-Mekong Cooperation River-Source Dialogue” was held in Qinghai, China.

The Lancang-Mekong River originates on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Qinghai Province, China. It is known as the Lancang River (澜沧江) in China and, after leaving China, flows through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, where it is known as the Mekong River.

On the evening of August 28, government leaders and representatives from all six countries gathered in Xining, Qinghai, for the opening ceremony of the “Lancang-Mekong Cooperation River-Source Dialogue”. Each participating country also sent talented performers to present a series of traditional music and dance performances during the ceremony.

On August 29, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Source Dialogue was held, bringing together representatives from the six countries for discussions on topics including ecology, culture and industry along the Lancang-Mekong region. The discussions focused on practical cooperation and closer collaboration among the participating countries.
