Daci Temple

Daci Temple is located in the center of Chengdu, inside the Taikoo Li area. It is an ancient Buddhist temple with a history of more than 1,000 years.

Outside the temple stands a large stone wall carved with three golden Chinese characters: Fu (福), Lu (禄), and Shou (寿). These characters represent three lifelong wishes in Chinese culture:

• Fu: good fortune and blessings in life
• Lu: career success and wealth
• Shou: health and long life

* Many visitors touch these characters, believing that doing so brings good luck and allows them to receive the blessings behind each meaning.

During the Tang dynasty, Daci Temple was one of the largest and most active Buddhist temples in southwest China. The famous monk Xuanzang once studied Buddhist scriptures here and officially became a fully ordained monk.

Below are some of the most well-known Buddhist figures at Daci Temple. Many worshippers come here to pray for blessings:

1. Shakyamuni Buddha
   The founder of Buddhism, symbolizing compassion and wisdom. Visitors often pray here to ease worries, avoid misfortune, and seek peace and safety.
2. Amitabha Buddha
   A symbol of light, longevity, and wisdom. Many people pray here for good health and a long life.
3. Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru)
   Representing healing, health, and wisdom. Worshippers often pray for recovery from illness and physical well-being.
4. Guanyin Bodhisattva
   Known for compassion and mercy. People come here to pray for all kinds of positive and kind-hearted wishes.
5. Manjushri Bodhisattva
   A symbol of wisdom. Those hoping for academic success, smooth exams, or progress in their careers often pray here.
6. Maitreya Buddha
   Representing tolerance, compassion, joy, and hope. Many visitors pray for emotional relief, inner peace, and good fortune.

Inside Daci Temple, there is also a vegetarian dining hall. It is mainly for monks, but many visitors choose to enjoy a simple vegetarian meal here after praying.
