Taotaoju is a well-known restaurant brand from Guangzhou. Its first shop opened in 1880 during the Qing Dynasty, so it’s been around for more than a century. It’s one of the city’s most famous tea houses. As of January 2025, Taotaoju has opened more than 30 branches across China, including Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu.
The restaurant blends traditional Lingnan (Cantonese) design with a modern style. It feels classic but detailed. When you walk in, the staff will ask you to pick a tea, which is charged per person. Once you’ve chosen your tea, you can start ordering dim sum and dishes. Portions are small, so it’s easy to try many different items in one visit.
The Chengdu branch sits right in the city center near Taikoo Li.
Address: 2F, No. 2310, East Zone of Taikoo Li, Jinjiang District (take the elevator next to MUJI).
From Daci Temple at Taikoo Li, face the temple and walk to the right. Enter the alley next to the temple and walk about 150 meters. The restaurant is located on the second floor.
