Tao Tao Ju Taikoo Li Chengdu

Taotaoju is a well-known restaurant brand from Guangzhou. Its first shop opened in 1880 during the Qing Dynasty, so it’s been around for more than a century. It’s one of the city’s most famous tea houses. As of January 2025, Taotaoju has opened more than 30 branches across China, including Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu.

The restaurant blends traditional Lingnan (Cantonese) design with a modern style. It feels classic but detailed. When you walk in, the staff will ask you to pick a tea, which is charged per person. Once you’ve chosen your tea, you can start ordering dim sum and dishes. Portions are small, so it’s easy to try many different items in one visit.

Signature Dishes

1. Century Roast Goose (百年烧鹅) – Crispy, fragrant skin on the outside and juicy, tender goose meat inside. It’s one of their most classic dishes.
2. Chilled Sweet-and-Sour Pork (冰镇咕噜肉) – Served on ice. The pork is coated in a sweet and tangy sauce and paired with fresh fruit. It’s refreshing and bright.
3. Signature Shrimp Dumplings (招牌大虾饺) – Handmade, with thin wrappers and plenty of shrimp.
4. Crispy Milk-Custard Pineapple Bun (酥皮水牛奶菠萝包) – Crunchy on the outside, filled with warm, creamy buffalo-milk custard. One bite and it melts in your mouth.
